Memorial Day activities. Summer is fast approaching and I am here for it. I enjoy the sunshine and the outdoors about as much as my boys do. With the warmer weather, comes the official start of Summer and that is Memorial day.

Memorial Day is the last Monday in May and is the holiday to honor and remember those who have passed while defending our country.

For most, Memorial day is full of picnics and family time. But we also need to keep in mind the real reason for the holiday.

Memorial Day Activities

Picnic/ BBQ

The beginning of summer brings outdoor grilling weather. Most spend their holiday with family and friends cooking outdoors and having a backyard BBQ. Whether it is in your own backyard or if you go to a park, picnics are a great way to spend Memorial Day.

Swimming

Most public pools or water parks are opened starting Memorial Day weekend. Perfect time to throw on the swimsuit and cool off with the rising temperatures. Plus the kiddos will enjoy the pool too.

Fireworks

Just like the Fourth of July, this holiday can be seen as a celebration of one’s life or dedication to one’s country. Fireworks are a good way to celebrate. Plus who doesn’t love fireworks? Well, maybe your little ones won’t like them as much.

Lawn Games

Lawn games go hand in hand with outdoor BBQs. Play some corn hole, or can jam. Getting everyone outdoors and playing games together is a great way to spend the weekend.

Visit a Memorial

If you had family who served, visiting their gravestone or memorial is a way to celebrate them. They risked their lives for our freedoms and we should be extremely thankful for that.

Final Thoughts

We personally will be camping in Gettysburg, Pa. The town is always full of people walking through the battlefield seeing all the monuments of the fallen soldiers. My boys enjoy spending time at the campground and so do I. I hope you enjoy your holiday weekend!

No matter what you do or how you spend your weekend, make sure you remember those who made this a holiday.
